A Knoxville man has been sentenced following a DUI conviction involving methamphetamine, according to the District Attorney General's Office of the 6th Judicial District. Clint Steven Foster, 42, faced a two-day trial which resulted in his conviction for DUI (first offense), reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, simple possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
As reported by WATE, the incident occurred in August 2022 when Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 at Alcoa Highway. Upon their arrival, they found Foster slumped over in the driver’s seat. According to the officers' accounts, which were detailed at the trial, he appeared disoriented and his speech was slurred. Foster initially told Officer Rogers that he did not know what happened and showed signs of impairment, struggling to even stand without assistance after exiting the vehicle.
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that included a small bag of methamphetamine and three needles found in Foster's vehicle. DA Charme Allen emphasized, "Luckily, no one was injured in the accident, but this is another example of the dangers of impaired driving." Additionally, evidence was presented of Foster's outstanding warrant from a separate methamphetamine trafficking and firearms case.
Foster, who witnesses said he became aggressive when asked to perform field sobriety tests, later claimed in court that his behavior was due to a diabetic episode and then modified his statement to allege a concussion, as detailed by WBIR. Senior Judge Kelly Thomas handed down a sentence that includes 60 days in custody, with the balance on state probation. This sentence exceeds the mandatory minimum for a first DUI offense, which underscores a deterrence-driven response to impaired driving and reflects Foster's prior felony conviction for Possession with Intent to Sell Methamphetamine.
Throughout the legal procedures, Assistant Victim Witness Coordinator Brittany Wilhelmson aided in the successful prosecution of this case. Foster must now face the consequences of his actions, which include DUI school, a fine, and a one-year license revocation along with his jail sentence.
