A structure fire that erupted in a vacant commercial building in the Mid-Wilshire area was fully extinguished by the efforts of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) on October 23rd. According to an LAFD alert, it took 49 firefighters approximately 43 minutes to tackle the heavy flames that had consumed the building at 1023 S Crenshaw Bl. The site was no stranger to fire, having previously been involved in a similar incident. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the operation. Details about the cause of the fire are currently under investigation.
The operation was described as a "defensive firefighting operation" by LAFD spokesperson Brian Humphrey, who noted that the building was "well involved with flames on their arrival". While dealing with the blaze, one firefighter displayed symptoms of physical exhaustion. Adhering to protocol, the firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital and is now in fair condition following a more comprehensive medical evaluation, as per a subsequent update from the LAFD.
The intensive blaze prompted a rapid response from LAFD, with multiple engine companies and tactical units, including E226, E229, and T61, being deployed to the scene. Resources such as RA26 and RA29 were also on site.
No other injuries have been reported. "The fire's cause remains under investigation," confirmed Brian Humphrey in a statement obtained by LAFD.
