A 12-year-old student from Lancaster, Ohio, has been put into detention, accused of making a bomb threat at Thomas Ewing Junior High, as reported by WBNS. The juvenile, whose identity remains undisclosed due to their age, was charged with inducing panic after deputies were called about the threat on Friday.
According to NBC4i and a statement on the incident by ABC6, the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office and Lancaster City School District conducted a joint investigation that led to his arrest. However, the accused's mother proclaimed her son's innocence and expressed dismay over his weekend detention. WBNS stated, "They need to have evidence. It needs to be looked into."
Authorities, after investigating, found no bombs on the child, and the sheriff's office did not put the school under lockdown, suggesting they did not perceive an immediate threat. WBNS report describes the accused making beeping noises and allegedly uttering the words “Allah Akbar” before he was detained and later sent to the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center.
Released to his mother following a court appearance on Monday, where the youth entered a denial, his next hearing is scheduled for the following month, as his family contends with the allegations against a backdrop of legal procedures and societal questions about the treatment of youth in the justice system and the standards for evidence necessary before such punitive actions are taken, this according to the boy's mother in a statement obtained by ABC6.
