Two men are now facing serious charges after an attempted carjacking at a Waterford Township gas station, which placed a woman in immediate peril. According to CBS News Detroit, Anthony Deshaun Jones Jr., from Lansing, and Herbert Lee Artis Jr., hailing from Grand Blanc, engaged in a brazen act of attempted vehicular theft last Saturday morning.

The woman, who was subjected to the threat of violence while fueling her car, found an unexpected ally in a fellow patron who intervened, prompting the suspects to abandon their attempt and flee, FOX 2 Detroit reported. The suspects arrived in a stolen black Ford Mustang which, according to the police, as per ClickOnDetroit, was later identified by an off-duty police officer who notified dispatched uniformed officers leading to their arrest.

The charges against Jones include carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon, assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer, and felony firearm. Artis is being held accountable for carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, felony firearm, and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. Their bails have been set at a steep $100,000 each, as per information provided by the authorities cited by CBS News Detroit.

Later in the day, the witnessing officer of the crime having to keep watch until backup could arrive, reported the location of the stolen Mustang at a Meijer store's lot on Highland Road. In a coordinated response, law enforcement officers were able to apprehend the suspects without further incident, FOX 2 Detroit detailed. As detailed in their report, police also secured two firearms, along with additional magazines and ammunition, during the arrest.
