In a string of bold ATM burglaries and associated violent crimes that ravaged the San Fernando Valley over two months, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has reportedly made strides in ensuring justice by apprehending four individuals believed to be at the core of this criminal operation. As per CBS News Los Angeles, the suspects identified are Anthony Cacho, 22, Stephany Gonzalez-Jimenez, 24, Richard Nevarez, 24, and the eldest of the group, 40-year-old Luis Angel Rodriguez-Arroyo, with their alleged crimes spanning the time frame between August 16 and October 16.
The arrests shed light on the ruthlessness of the operations where, as KTLA details, the suspects physically broke into businesses and aggressively dislodged ATMs using chains tied to their vehicles which wrought not only the loss of cash but also significant property damage. In nearly every case, surveillance showed the suspects forcing entry, and upon successful extraction of the ATMs, they were later found deserted sans the money.
There are multiple charges laid upon the suspects: Cacho faces a count of possessing an unregistered assault weapon, Gonzalez-Jimenez is charged with commercial burglary, Rodriguez-Arroyo with carjacking and five counts of commercial burglary, and Nevarez's involvement is still under review by the District Attorney's Office, according to reports from LAPD Online Newsroom.
