The Battle of the Badges is back in Lewisville with police and fire department teams going head-to-head for charity. This softball tournament isn't just a chance for first responders to showcase their athletic prowess, it's a show of community spirit with a philanthropic twist. Taking place on Saturday, October 12, at Lewisville Railroad Park, the 21st annual installment is expected to draw teams from across North Texas, all competing for a good cause. Each team will bat for their favorite 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with the first-place team securing a $750 donation and the second-place team earning $500 for their chosen charity, according to the City of Lewisville.
There's nothing like a bit of friendly competition between our emergency services to stoke up civic pride and let’s face it, who doesn't love a charitable angle? In addition to the main event, attendees can relish in the community atmosphere with no entrance fee to spectate the games. Families can anticipate an array of activities, complete with crafts, face painting, and a badge pull (I hear it's a randomized raffle). For those looking to get in on the action, there'll even be a free Zumba class on deck. The city of Lewisville seems to have thought of everyone, offering an eclectic mix of entertainment and refreshment options, including the ever-classic hot dogs for purchase, according to the city’s announcement.
What's commendable is how the Battle of the Badges amplifies its impact beyond the athletic competition. The event's proceeds will fuel the efforts of the Lewisville Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association in their various community projects. This approach demonstrates an ongoing commitment to local needs and positions police and firefighters as key players in the arena of community service beyond their day-to-day heroics.
