In a notable legal proceeding resolving a violent episode that shocked the local community, Kaleb Deshun Carter has accepted a plea deal over the shooting death of Jayden Tramaine Anderson, an event that took place at a Lewisville entertainment venue earlier this year. According to the City of Lewisville's official release, the plea agreement entails a 40-year sentence in state prison for Carter, who was 16 at the time of his arrest but was later certified as an adult by the court.
The incident on March 29 unraveled at the Luxor Hookah Lounge according to investigators, the situation began as a verbal altercation which quickly escalated, and tragically culminated in the fatal shooting of Anderson. This plea agreement comes after thorough police work by the Lewisville Police Department, whose detectives utilized surveillance footage and witness statements to identify and apprehend Carter on April 2. Carter's arrest followed his departure from the scene of the crime in haste before law enforcement's arrival.
The City of Lewisville confirms that Anderson suffered multiple gunshot wounds, leading to his death at Medical City Lewisville, with a second individual sustaining non-fatal injuries. At the September 19 plea deal "the family of the victim was aware of the plea and was in court during the agreement," indicating that this resolution was witnessed by those most personally affected by the incident.
Praising his team's commitment to the case, Police Chief Brook Rollins expressed satisfaction with the legal outcome, as per the City of Lewisville, "I am proud of the team here at the Lewisville Police Department," Rollins said, "The officers and investigators working on this case did an outstanding job of sorting through a vast amount of conflicting details, which ultimately led to the arrest and conviction of the suspect" with the hope that "Jayden’s family can find some comfort in knowing that the person responsible for this senseless tragedy will be held accountable."
