Los Angeles firefighters, alongside Los Angeles County and Ventura County fire departments, successfully extinguished a brush fire today in Chatsworth. As stated by the LAFD, "Los Angeles County and Ventura County Firefighters in Automatic Aid to a one-half (0.50) acre slow moving wildfire involving light-to-medium brush in a Mutual Threat Zone just south of the Ronald Reagan (SR118) Freeway at Topanga Canyon Boulevard." This wildfire will be referred to as the #RockyFire. The incident was first reported at approximately 12:49 PM.
Despite the geographical challenges presented by the terrain and a slight northward wind between 5-8 mph, the LAFD and its allied agencies were able to prevent the fire's spread, as noted in the updates provided by the Fire Department.
By 01:53 PM, the LAFD confirmed a "knockdown" of the fire, indicating full extinguishment of the flames. Officials declared no injuries, structural damage, or evacuations were resultant from the incident. "With swift and effective Automatic Aid from Los Angeles County and Ventura County Firefighters in a region considered a Mutual Threat Zone at the three agency border, LAFD responders have now fully extinguished a two acre wildfire," as reported the LAFD.
The containment efforts necessitated the closure of Topanga Canyon Boulevard between Santa Susana Pass Road and the 118 Freeway, impacting traffic flow in the area. As of their last report, the LAFD advised that the roadway would remain closed until deemed safe for public travel.
