Yesterday afternoon, a brush fire broke out in Elysian Park, but thanks to the rapid response of local firefighters, the blaze was quickly contained. At around 4:30 PM, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to reports of a grass fire that had started near 1340 N Stadium Way and was steadily spreading. Despite the light winds, the fire grew to encompass approximately 1.5 acres before crews could tackle the flames.
Firefighters from multiple stations were dispatched to the scene, including specialized aerial observation units and tactical teams. These teams elevated the incident from a grass fire response to a brush fire response on arrival. Their efforts and the initial information about the fire were detailed in a LAFD alert dated October 25th, under the incident number 1258.
Fortunately, the LAFD's swift action paid off. By 5:31 PM, less than two hours after the initial report, all forward progress of the fire had been stopped. The first responders had successfully contained the blaze to less than one acre. According to their follow-up alert, there were no injuries reported nor any structural damage.
Although the fire has been halted, LAFD personnel remained on site, completing mop-up operations to ensure the fire was completely extinguished, with no hot spots left smoldering underneath. "Firefighters will remain onscene connecting mop up operations to ensure no hot spots remain," the LAFD's statement confirmed. Residents and local traffic were likely to see ongoing activity as the area was secured.
