Macomb County is intensifying efforts to address the ongoing talent gap that has been challenging local businesses. As part of these efforts, the Macomb County Planning and Economic Development (MCPED) department will host a "Find Your Future Workforce" webinar on November 12, aimed at connecting employers with future talent from K-12 schools that offer career training programs, as per Macomb County.
The virtual event, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., aligns with the county’s Fueling the Talent Pipeline (FTTP) initiative. This initiative focuses on helping students explore career paths through real-world experiences such as internships, job shadowing, and facility tours. According to MCPED Director Vicky Rowinski, these efforts not only offer students a glimpse into their future careers but also help businesses build a sustainable workforce pipeline.
The FTTP initiative has already made significant progress, forging meaningful connections between schools and employers. Jennifer Weot, Senior Outreach Specialist at MCPED, noted that the program delivers “real results,” with students discovering career paths and pursuing their passions. For businesses, the initiative offers an opportunity to mentor and shape their next generation of workers.
The upcoming webinar will feature insights from several key figures, including John Onofrey, Regional Chief Nursing Officer at Henry Ford Health; Christine Akroush, a career coach at Center Line High School; and students who have benefited from FTTP programs. Jennifer Weot will also share her experiences with the initiative.
Participation in the webinar is free, but registration is required. Interested organizations and individuals can find more information and sign up through Macomb County’s official website.
