A 41-year-old man, Rene Cooke, faces arrest for allegedly running over another person following a minor crash in Littleton on Monday night, as reported by Littleton Police.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Broadway and West Powers Avenue, where an altercation stemming from a seemingly minor collision took a violent turn, the police responded to the event after it quickly escalated, and sadly, when one of the drivers exited their car to resolve the matter, they were met with a harsh and inhumane counter-response from Cooke who, according to 9News, drove over them and fled the scene without regard for the grave injury inflicted.
The victim, currently unnamed, was promptly transported to the hospital and is reported to be in critical condition; the police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances that left one individual clinging to life while another stands accused of a heinous act of violence over a dispute that began, as these too often do, with something as trivial as dented metal and scratched paint.
Cooke's apprehension has come as a result of his actions which, while shocking, reflect a broader societal ailment of rage and disregard for the sanctity of human life, this point is made evident, as shared by KDVR, which notes the Littleton community's struggle to reconcile the brutality of the incident with the day-to-day civilities one expects of its neighbors, and while the legal process must still unfold to determine the fate of the accused, for the victim and their loved ones, the road ahead is marked indelibly by the scars of this senseless encounter.
