A serious accident involving a motorcycle and a car at the intersection of North Main and South Main streets in Mansfield required the airlift of a 23-year-old male to Massachusetts General Hospital. The Mansfield Fire Department's social media post reported that the distress call came in at approximately 14:53 yesterday afternoon, handled by the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Emergency Communications Center.
The Mansfield Fire Department responders, after arriving at the scene, deemed the rider's condition serious enough to necessitate medevac support. Due to an existing medical emergency, the Plymouth St crew being otherwise engaged resulted in the Easton Fire Department stepping in to aid at the landing zone, set at the local high school. The cooperative effort saw the injured rider flown to the Boston hospital for much-needed medical attention.
Injuries sustained by the individual were described as critical and life-threatening. "The Rescue crew on scene called for Boston MedFlight to land at the LZ at the High School. Medflight transported a 23yo Male to Mass General Hospital with serious life threatening injuries," as stated in the Fire Department's social media post.
The Mansfield Police Department is currently investigating the details of the incident. While information is limited, its impact affects those involved and the broader community awaiting updates on the recovery of the injured motorcyclist. The Mansfield Fire Department also thanked neighboring agencies for their support, saying, "Thanks to Easton Fire Department for providing mutual aid support at the LZ."
