Over the weekend, a series of incidents involving armed individuals and a stolen vehicle culminated in an arrest and the recovery of stolen firearms, as reported by various local Memphis news outlets and the Memphis Police Department (MPD). A carjacking that took place on Saturday in the 1900 block of Overton Park Avenue near Overton Park set off the chain of events. The victim, sitting in his car, was accosted by two men who hit him in the face with a handgun, forced him out of his 2017 Hyundai Sonata, and fired shots at him as he fled, according to WREG.

The following day, the Memphis Police Department responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle at Incredible Pizza on North Germantown Parkway, the MPD shared on their Facebook page. The vehicle, which was the same Hyundai Sonata stolen the previous day, led MPD on a chase after being spotted driving North on Appling Road. Ashton Marshall, 21, was apprehended as the passenger after the pursued vehicle crashed at Sam Cooper Boulevard and Tillman Street, and then he fled on foot.

FOX13 Memphis reports that the chase, which began near Appling Road and Dexter Grove, eventually led to a crash involving a police car. After a brief foot chase, Marshall, carrying several stolen firearms including a Glock with live rounds, was arrested.

Marshall now faces multiple charges including Theft of Property to wit: Motor Vehicle $2,500-$10,000, two counts of Theft of Property $2,500 or less to wit: Firearm, Evading Arrest on Foot, and Vandalism over $1,000, and being held on a $1,600 bond, WREG details. Amidst reports of ski masks and guns, two stolen guns were found during his arrest.
