
The Metropolitan Police Department is turning to the public for help in their search for an individual linked to a string of armed carjackings in the area. The suspect is reported to have targeted moped riders, brandishing a firearm and demanding the vehicles before taking off with them.
Police say the first reported incident took place on the evening of September 2 in the Unit block of K Street, Northeast, with the moped later being recovered. Displaying a handgun, as the victims were with their mopeds. The suspect then struck again on September 13 and September 17, in the Unit block of Pierce Street and the 1100 block of 1st Street, respectively. The latter moped has also been located, according to the police reports.
Citizens with any information that could help identify the suspect are encouraged to keep their distance and reach out to the authorities. Information can be relayed via phone at (202) 727-9099 or sent through the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. Notably, there's a sizeable financial incentive for those whose tips lead to positive action: The MPD is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for details that culminate in an arrest and conviction in any of these violent crimes committed within the boundaries of the District of Columbia.
The urgency of the situation is heightened by the fact that the events took place at similar locations and times, suggesting a pattern in the suspect's activities. The MPD has released the case numbers associated with the incidents: CCN:24135501 for the September 2 offense, CCN: 24141705 for the September 13 event, and CCN: 24143994 following the occurrence on September 17. As the police press forward in their hunt for this armed carjacker, they implore the community to play a part in bringing these distressing occurrences to a halt.
