A 60-year-old man from Smiths Creek, Michigan, was arrested on charges of felonious assault after he was accused of pointing a gun at another driver during a road rage incident. The arrest followed a report to the Detroit Regional Dispatch Center regarding a felonious assault in Macomb County's Armada Township on Tuesday, as CBS News Detroit reported. The Michigan State Police responded to find the man in his car with a pistol seated on the front passenger’s seat.
Upon the troopers’ arrival, the man allegedly moved to pick up the weapon when ordered to get out of the car. This tense situation was, law enforcement stressed, defused when the suspect complied with an order to drop the weapon. After his arrest for felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon, the suspect is now pending a prosecutor's review according to Audacy. Specific details on what sparked the road rage incident or where exactly it occurred have yet to be released.
Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw spoke out on the gravity of the situation, saying, "There is nothing that happens while driving that should make you so mad to point a gun at someone," as told to The Voice News. "We are glad the suspect complied with the troopers commands and this incident came to an end without anyone getting hurt." The identification of the suspect has not been disclosed as he remains held in the Macomb County Jail.
