In a significant drug crackdown, Michigan State Police uncovered more than two pounds of cocaine and a pair of homemade explosives during a search in Benton Township. The joint operation, involving law enforcement agencies from Michigan and Illinois, resulted in the arrest of one individual, as reported by ClickOnDetroit. Officers executed a search warrant on a residence on Vista Lake Drive, where they discovered 925 grams of cocaine, various drug paraphernalia, and two improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Robert Dontrall Sharp Jr., aged 46, hailing from Benton Township, was apprehended in connection with the findings. With a history of prior convictions, he now faces charges, including possession with intent to deliver cocaine and maintaining a drug house. The explosive devices were safely neutralized and disposed of by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, preventing potential harm to the neighborhood.
Further details provided by the Michigan State Police Fifth District's official social media account, highlight that the Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET) also played a pivotal role in the operation. In the latter part of August, working on tips from community members and a three-month investigation into interstate narcotics trafficking, SWET along with the 5th District Crime Prevention Squad, and ATF agents obtained the warrants leading to the raid.

In the home of Sharp, not only drugs and weapons were uncovered, but they also found evidence suggestive of drug trafficking. This bust serves as a testament to the relentless efforts of law enforcement in combatting the flow of illegal substances across state lines. As the community grapples with the scourge of narcotics, it's actions like these, spurred by public vigilance, that reinforce the critical role of collective responsibility in public safety.
