The recent loss of a young student has cast a somber shadow over the Millwood Arts Academy community. Twelve-year-old Tyler Taffe, a 7th grader and member of the school's football team, tragically died in a shooting incident at an Edmond home over the weekend. The police responded to the scene before 3 a.m. on Saturday, but the full circumstances leading up to the shooting remain undisclosed. According to KOCO, no arrests were made at the home on that day.
The Millwood family is dealing with the sudden loss of Tyler, a 12-year-old remembered fondly by Warren Pete, principal of Millwood Arts Academy. "Tyler was a very unique individual, very hard worker, always had the most contagious smile that any young man can have," Pete said. To honor him, the school's football team will wear special helmet decals and jersey tributes as the community copes with their grief together, as reported by OKC FOX.
William Grizzard, Taffe's friend on and off the football field, was left struggling to comprehend the sudden loss of his friend. "I tried calling him. Then I thought he was in the hospital at first, but then he wasn't," Grizzard recounted in an emotional narrative shared by KOCO. Millwood Middle School's principal further noted Tyler's positive spirit even in times of correction. "Even when he was being disciplined on some things, he would just always smile and and they always say, ‘I’ll do better tomorrow. Mr. Pete,'" Pete told KFOR.
