Residents of Minneapolis can look forward to a mostly pleasant week ahead, weather-wise, though a few showers might make an unwelcome appearance over the weekend. The National Weather Service forecasts a sunny day today with a high near 72 degrees and breezes coming in from the south at around 15 mph, gusting at times up to 25 mph. According to the latest forecast, tonight the city may see a 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1 am, but before then, expect a partly cloudy sky with a low of around 57 degrees.
Into the weekend, Saturday offers up a slim 10 percent chance of morning showers before clearing into partly sunny skies, with a high near 71 degrees. The evening should remain partly cloudy with temperatures dipping to a low around 57. "Sunday sunny, with a high near 81. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph," the weather service says. Folks can similarly expect a mostly clear night following, with low temperatures hovering around 60.
However, the National Weather Service also issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the region. The advisory highlights elevated fire weather conditions for today, particularly through this afternoon in southern Minnesota. This is largely due to the combination of lower humidity and stronger winds. "Elevated fire weather conditions will be present until our front arrives later today," the outlook cautions.
For those worried about potential fire hazards, the forecast for increased moisture and light wind conditions over the weekend should help to ease concerns, though the dryness of local fuels means residents should continue to closely monitor the situation. While fire weather concerns may be mitigated somewhat, the service notes that "conditions will need to be closely monitored given the very dry fuels." No SKYWARN spotter activation is expected to be needed over the coming days. As always, Minneapolis inhabitants are encouraged to stay informed and prepared for changing weather conditions, especially when fire risks are present.
