Amid widespread concern yesterday, the Waxahachie Police Department has confirmed that two elementary school students reported missing were found safe. The siblings, who attend Wedgeworth Elementary School, had not arrived home following their routine walk from school, prompting a call to authorities.
Following the initial alarm, first raised by one of the children's parents, multiple entities mobilized to locate the students. Officers, school employees, and detectives took to the streets, while drones scanned the paths between the school and the family's residence. It was during these earnest efforts, with the community joining in the search, reviewing surveillance footage, and trudging through neighborhood streets, that it was discovered the children had been retrieved by another family member earlier in the day.
The collaboration came as a relief to the area. In a statement on social media, the Waxahachie Police Department expressed their gratitude: “We would like to thank all of the citizens who helped us in the search both on foot in the neighborhood and by reviewing security camera footage to see if the children passed by their homes.”
