Montgomery County District Attorney's office has initiated an investigation into a police shooting that led to the death of a 68-year-old man in Upper Moreland Township's Commerce Square Apartments, as reported by FOX 29.
Responding to a domestic disturbance call at approximately 11:52 a.m. yesterday, two Upper Moreland Township police officers were granted entry by an 83-year-old woman resident into the apartment where they encountered the armed man, the man, according to the authorities, disregarded the police commands to put down his handgun and, as the situation escalated, the firearm was raised and the officers then discharged their weapons, resulting in his death, this information was corroborated by 6ABC.
As of yet, the 68-year-old man's identity remains undisclosed, and details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting are sparse—the Montgomery County detectives are presently at the scene conducting their probe into the incident, a process which, for now, leaves more questions than answers within the Willow Grove community.
The names of the involved officers are not yet released for public knowledge, and authorities urge anyone with further information to reach out. This active investigation is a continuing effort to understand the series of events that precipitated the fatal shooting, and the story is developing as investigators piece together the narratives, as affirmed by NBC Philadelphia.
