
An 18-year-old named Caleb James Williams was arrested for threatening voters at an early voting site in Neptune Beach, Florida. According to PBS News, he is a supporter of former President Donald Trump and faces charges of felony aggravated assault on a person 65 or older and misdemeanor exhibition of a dangerous weapon for allegedly brandishing a machete.
The incident on Tuesday involved Williams and a group of minors protesting at a suburban Jacksonville library. Reports say Williams held a two-foot machete above his head in a threatening way, targeting two women who were supporting Vice President Kamala Harris. Police Chief Michael Key condemned the act, stating, "but the moment you move to violence, that goes out the window," regarding First Amendment rights, as reported by Action News Jax.
Williams was arrested after an incident, while the juveniles with him were not charged. He faces three to fifteen years in prison if convicted of aggravated assault. Duval County Democratic Chair Daniel Henry stating, "Violence and intimidation have no place in our democratic process," and Republican chair Dean Black urging calm amid high political tension.
