Eastside entrepreneurs have a new resource to turn their business ideas into reality. Startup 425, in collaboration with The Founder Institute, has rolled out an accelerator program specifically for first-time entrepreneurs who are navigating the complexities of starting a venture. According to Bellevue's official news release, the program kicked off on September 30 and is focused on nurturing startup growth in various Eastside communities.
The 15-week accelerator has welcomed an inaugural cohort of 37 entrepreneurs, representing a swath of Eastside cities like Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Bothell, Issaquah, and Renton. Each partner city boasts at least five business founders admitted to the program, providing a diverse lineup of burgeoning enterprises, as reported by the City of Bellevue. The program's offerings include Silicon Valley-level training, educational and networking events, and key support services.
Mayor Lynne Robinson praised the initiative, emphasizing Bellevue's commitment to fostering innovation through collaborative efforts. The program is under the city's administration but maintained, by the collective support of Startup 425's partner cities. Funded entirely by the Port of Seattle and Amazon, the accelerator is notably free for participants, allowing them to tap into essential entrepreneurial resources without the financial encumbrances usually associated with such programs.
Levi Reed, coordinator for the program and Startup 425's resident entrepreneur, highlighted the accelerator's intent to support business owners from historically underrepresented communities. Reed told the City of Bellevue, "About 35% of the cohort consists of small business founders focused on targeting an underserved niche." This focus on inclusivity is a deliberate effort to create a more equitable entrepreneurial landscape, acknowledging the disproportionate barriers that founders from these communities often face.
