The N.C. State Fair, a showcase of entertainment and agricultural education, is bringing new thrills and reviving fan favorites this October. The fair is introducing The Strolling Piano, a mobile musical act that will be found roving near Gate 2, and it promises to captivate attendees with a variety of tunes, from classic rock to kid-friendly anthems. In addition, the Red Trouser Show is making a long-awaited return, with their high-energy acrobatics and audience-involving feats ensuring that visitors are in for a treat at the brick patio in front of Dorton Arena. "Part of the success of the N.C. State Fair is the blend of time-honored acts and exhibits with new entertainment and shows," said Kent Yelverton, N.C. State Fair director, in a statement obtained by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services website.

For those of legal drinking age, there's an exciting addition to this year's fair, the Stillhouse Building offers North Carolina made spirits and cocktails at a cost of $15 per drink, limited to two per person. And, buckle up for new thrills with two more new rides, the State Fair Slide and the Candyland Adventure Funhouse providing both height and eye candy. Meanwhile, and in a nod to an eco-friendlier alternative, the GoRaleigh shuttles offer park-and-ride options from Triangle Town Center to the fairgrounds, with round trips for a simple $5, or $4 one way, with reduced fares for some passengers and tots under 40” hopping on for free.

Marking two decades of agricultural enlightenment, the Field of Dreams and a working tobacco barn are celebrating their 20th anniversary at the fair. Fairgoers can immerse themselves in N.C. farming with interactive features including free kiddie rides and a pumpkin carving display by Jim Bille Creatives. Heritage Circle's working tobacco barn invites the public to observe the curing process and even partake in a tobacco tying contest or, attend a mock tobacco auction, revealing traditions of the Golden Leaf market.

Free entertainment still rules the fairgrounds with returning acts like The Birdman's World Class Bird Show, Rock-It the Robot and the enchanting Agri-cadabra. The canine and swine duo Hot Diggity Dog will also be making its rounds, paired with the Homegrown Music Fest hosting over 40 artists. All these attractions are part of the fair's mission, to provide a value-packed, quintessentially North Carolina experience, brimming with free entertainment, thrilling rides, and endless family-friendly activities. The 2024 N.C. State Fair will open its gates from Oct. 17-27, fest-goers can find more info and plan their visit at the official N.C. State Fair website.
