Quinn Gipson, a 5th grader attending Audubon Charter School, is garnering attention for his skill on the tennis court and in the classroom. A straight-A student, Quinn's proficiency in his academics is matched by his performance in tennis. Training under Alvin Varnado Jr., a seasoned High-Performance Coach at A's & Aces - NORD tennis program, Quinn shows the discipline and prowess of a seasoned competitor.
Quinn is the #1 player from his class in Louisiana and ranks 15th among the 10&Under players in the Gulf Coast States. He's already clawing his way into the top 20 for the state's 12&Under bracket, a staggering accomplishment. "Quinn has become quite a competitive player with excellent stroke production, great court coverage, and shot selection," a statement obtained by the City of New Orleans quoted Coach Varnado. The youngster's efforts recently netted him a second-place trophy at the American Tennis Association (ATA) National Championship in Orlando.
Apart from sports, Quinn’s academic excellence is not to be understated. Recently named the Louisiana winner of the 2024 NJTL Essay Contest in the Southern Section. Quinn is now set to receive an all-expenses-paid trip as a reward for his academic accomplishments, inviting him to witness tennis legends at the Charlotte, NC Invitational. It’s an opportunity to observe greats like Carlos Alcaraz and Madison Keys in action, which could provide invaluable experience and inspiration.
Larry Barabino, Jr., the CEO of NORD Commission, is vocal about his admiration for Quinn's dual achievements. "We are incredibly proud of Quinn's accomplishments," he told NORD. "His growth as a competitive player on the court, coupled with his academic excellence, showcases the positive impact sports can have on youth development. Quinn represents the bright future we envision for our young athletes, and we are honored to support him on this journey," as per the City of New Orleans.
