Commuters on eastbound Interstate-94 in Calhoun County faced significant delays yesterday when a semi-truck overturned, causing a complete road closure. Michigan State Police (MSP) reported that the incident occurred just before 1:45 p.m. near exit 92, Columbia Avenue. The authorities were prompt in advising motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes, as confirmed by FOX 17 Online.
There were no injuries despite the chaos the single-vehicle crash inflicted on the afternoon traffic. In a statement obtained by Battle Creek Enquirer, MSP detailed, "Marshall post troopers are currently investigating a single vehicle crash involving a semi-tractor trailer EB I-94 after M-37 (Columbia Ave) Exit 92 in Calhoun County. No injuries reported, however, all lanes blocked. Use alternate routes until traffic reopens." The road was closed, blocked by a truck that was turned sideways. Drivers slowed down to see what had happened, interrupting their routine.
While the MSP conducted their investigation, the ramifications of the road closure were felt wide and far, with traffic backing up and diversions leading travelers on a detour through the arteries of Michigan's road network. As per the Battle Creek Enquirer, the crash was first reported around 1:30 p.m., a mere 15 minutes before the law enforcement's decision to shut down the eastbound route completely.
Late in the afternoon, MSP's Fifth District provided an update that the interstate had been cleared and reopened around 5:15 p.m., as stated by MSP Fifth District.
