The New Orleans Fire Department tackled a two-alarm blaze at a residence under construction located at 714 7th Street in the Uptown area. The department responded quickly, receiving the 911 call last night at 7:34 P.M. and arriving on the scene by 7:38 P.M., according to a press release from the NOFD. The fire, which broke out in the evening, saw flames erupting from both the first and second floors of the structure.
The proximity of the burning structure to neighboring homes prompted officials to request a second alarm at 7:40 P.M., which brought additional firefighting resources to the scene. Despite the potential for a larger disaster, the NOFD personnel, numbering 48, with the aid of 21 units, successfully controlled the spread of the fire. This swift action helped to avoid major damage to adjacent buildings, and no injuries were reported amongst the firefighters or any civilian occupants inside the structure.
Efforts by the fire department culminated in the fire being declared under control at 8:12 P.M. This was a notable achievement, given the fire’s intensity and the risks posed to the surrounding area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, as the site of the incident continued to be examined for clues and evidence that might shed light on the circumstances leading up to the event.
