In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking through Oklahoma, deputies from the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office seized a haul of cocaine with a street value of roughly $1.3 million. According to News 9, Sheriff Tommie Johnson emphasized the adeptness of the team, which has confiscated over eight tons of illegal drugs in the past three years.

On Interstate 40, deputies intercepted two vehicles that appeared to be moving in coordination, a tactic often employed by drug traffickers to avoid detection. A deputy, after pulling over one vehicle adorned with Texas license plates, discovered two suitcases in the backseat. The driver, Diana Delgado, was on her way to Chicago, or so she claimed. Arresting the suspects, Sheriff Johnson noted, "These guys are professionals," hinting at the deputies' ability to uncover such trafficking attempts, as reported by News 9.

Deploying a canine unit to the scene, officers were alerted to the presence of drugs by the dog despite attempted concealment measures including cayenne pepper sprinkled over the packages. As noted by KOCO, within the suitcases, deputies found 47.5 pounds of pre-cut cocaine, a testament to the specialization and effectiveness of the Criminal Interdiction Team of Central Oklahoma (CITCO).

Johnson praised CITCO for its ongoing efforts in drug interdiction, stating, "Over eight tons of illegal narcotics this group has taken off the roadways. That is incredible," in an interview with OKC FOX. Using masking agents such as laundry soap and dryer sheets did not deter the sheriff's K9s from detecting drugs in Delgado's vehicle. After the drugs were uncovered, Delgado provided information on a second suspect, David Gutierrez, who was apprehended shortly after.

The investigation remains active as officials aim to trace the origins and intended destinations of the narcotics. Both suspects were booked into the Oklahoma County Jail facing charges of aggravated trafficking and conspiracy. These arrests add to the extensive record of drug seizures by Oklahoma deputies, who remain vigilant against the shadow of trafficking that looms over their interstates.
