An Olivehurst man has been convicted of attempting to possess child pornography after a Yuba County jury found Christopher Ryan Brown guilty of the charge. According to the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office, the case started when Brown followed a 10-year-old girl’s Instagram account and engaged in a conversation with her, or so he believed. Posing as her daughter, the girl's mother replied to Brown's follow, initiating a conversation that led to him soliciting nude photos and proposing illicit activities. Yuba County District Attorney Clint Curry declared, "This case should serve as a reminder to all of us that there are men online seeking to exploit our children," indicating the disturbing nature of the crime.
The investigation, led by Detective Tyler Johannes, alongside Deputies Shaun Hammond and Brady Beymer, culminated in Brown’s arrest on August 11, 2023. After a wild chase, Brown, found naked, attempted to flee through alleys and backyards before being apprehended. Despite his efforts to escape, law enforcement officials did not allow him to elude justice.
Following a jury trial where multiple witnesses recounted their testimony, the Yuba County jury deliberated for approximately half a day before delivering the verdict. "I am very thankful that Mr. Brown's efforts to solicit nude photos from a 10-year-old girl were foiled by the girl's mother and law enforcement," said Yuba County District Attorney Clint Curry, as mentioned on the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office Facebook page. Sentencing is set for October 28, 2024, where Brown faces a maximum of four years and four months in prison for this and an unrelated felony domestic violence charge.
The community's gratitude has been extended to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department for their commendable effort in investigating this troubling case and to Senior Deputy District Attorney Brad Morrow, who effectively prosecuted the case. Brown remains in custody, awaiting his sentencing later this month.
