In the early hours of Friday morning, tragedy struck on I-85 in north Charlotte as one person was killed in a vehicle crash. According to WBTV, the incident occurred on I-85 South near Beatties Ford Road just shortly after 1:30 a.m.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene where MEDIC confirmed the single fatality, as reported by WSOCTV. While they did not report any additional injuries, the severity of the crash led to a closure of the southbound lanes for an extended duration exceeding two hours.
The aftermath of the crash saw the involvement of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Highway Patrol as they cordoned off the area to carry out their investigation. As described by WCNC, the wreck took place near the Beatties Ford Road exit and the interchange with Interstate 77.
The identity of the person who died has not been released, and officials are still investigating the cause of the crash. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has not provided additional details.
