A suspect has been arrested following a double shooting in a south Phoenix neighborhood that resulted in one fatality and another individual wounded. FOX 10 Phoenix reports that the incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on October 14 near 7th and Southern Avenues.

At the scene, Phoenix Police discovered two gunshot victims, 29-year-old Rashaad Johnson, who was pronounced dead at the location, and a 32-year-old woman who was hospitalized but is expected to recover. According to details obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, Johnson and the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Refugio Jimenez, allegedly engaged in a heated argument that escalated to the point where Jimenez opened fire, hitting both Johnson and the woman.

On October 17, Jimenez was apprehended following what was described by the authorities as an "extensive manhunt." During his arrest, he was found discarding a firearm and was also outfitted with body armor. Additionally, AZfamily notes that methamphetamine was found in his possession.

Jimenez informed investigators that he acted in self-defense. However, the Phoenix police have since refuted this claim, stating the evidence at the scene did not support his assertion, as per AZfamily. It remains unclear what initiated the dispute that culminated in gunfire. Charged with nine felony offenses, including first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and burglary, Jimenez now awaits legal proceedings while detained.
