In a city that values its winged residents as dearly as its human ones, Orlando has once again shown its commitment to its feathered friends with a heartwarming act of charity from two of its own citizens. WFTV reports that an Orlando couple became the latest benefactors of Lake Eola's waterfowl community by donating a pair of Australian Black Swans in a touching gesture of love and civic pride.

The new avians are courtesy of David and Nicole Beyer, who decided to celebrate their anniversary in a less-than-traditional manner by gifting the swans to the city — and inadvertently to each other, adding a dimension to the park’s roster that includes other breeds such as the Trumpeter, Black Neck, Whooper, and Royal Mute Swans, the swans are currently being held in a special area to help them acclimate to their new environment but future strolls around the lake for the couple, and other residents likely to encounter the Beyers' namesake birds.

According to ClickOrlando, the donation is timely and much needed. It follows a series of unfortunate events that have beset the park's swan population, including death by Avian Influenza and a rogue otter's attacks.
