An Orlando man faces a serious period behind bars after a federal grand jury delivered an indictment for arson that caused injury and damage at Inter&Co Stadium. Giovanni Isai Ramirez Reyes, 37, risks a minimum of 7 years to a maximum of 40 years in prison if the courts find him guilty, the Department of Justice reported.
The incident unfolded during a soccer match on February 24 when throwing two flares into a crowd, Reyes reportedly lit the incendiary devices, which led to a larger fire. In the chaotic scramble, a child received burns amidst the flames that also left a mark on the stadium's infrastructure itself.
Emphasizing the legal process, an indictment is not a conviction but a formal accusation of a crime. Reyes is presumed innocent in the eyes of the law until proven otherwise. The combined efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with local police and fire departments, pieced together the case that Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Nate will bring to court.
