Two people died early Tuesday morning when a van they were in was involved in a severe accident on Interstate 10 in Baker County. News4Jax reported that the vehicle, carrying a 65-year-old man from Ormond Beach and a 43-year-old woman from Daytona Beach, went off the highway. The driver tried to correct the steering, causing the van to spin and flip before hitting a tree.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just after 1 a.m. on the eastbound lanes near mile marker 322. Despite quick reporting, emergency responders could only confirm the deaths of both occupants at the scene. The road was closed as investigators began their work, noting that the vehicle had lost control before coming to a stop. The names of those involved have not been released as authorities are notifying their families.
The Florida Highway Patrol will investigate weather conditions, road surface status, and possible impairment to determine what caused the van to flip and crash. The community is waiting for more details as the investigation continues. An official report is expected to provide information about the crash and may help improve road safety, as reported by Action News Jax.
