With the sizzling highs of the Arizona sun continuing to blaze, Peoria officials have opted to prolong the operational period of the city's Cooling Centers and Hydration Stations until October 11. This measure is a response to the unrelenting extreme temperatures forecasted to persist in the area. The extension also coincides with the wider efforts of the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Heat Relief Network's regional response to combat the risks associated with the heat wave.
Citizens seeking refuge from the scorching heat can find solace in several designated public spaces. The Peoria Community Center located at 8335 W. Jefferson St., is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Peoria Main Library at 8463 W. Monroe St., welcomes visitors Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Friday to Saturday, 12-5 p.m. Additional cooling zones include Sunrise Mountain Library and Rio Vista Recreation Center, with specific hours detailed in an official announcement by the City of Peoria.
The city has also established dedicated Hydration Stations for the public to access free drinking water during these intense weather conditions. Locations like Peoria City Hall at 8401 W. Monroe St., and the Peoria Development and Community Services Building at 9875 N. 85th Ave., are open Monday through Thursday, providing these essential services from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
