A 25-year-old Perkasie man is facing trial over his involvement in a fatal crash that occurred in Hilltown Township this past June. Colin John Wahlers has been charged with being heavily intoxicated, when he allegedly attempted to elude a Hilltown Township police officer, resulting in an accident that claimed the life of his passenger, Joseph Kay, age 35.
During a preliminary hearing at the Criminal Justice Center, three law enforcement officers took the stand, testifying before Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage. After hearing the evidence on Thursday, Judge Armitage ruled that the charges against Wahlers were sufficient to proceed to the Court of Common Pleas. The courtroom, which was filled to capacity, saw the case escalate to the next legal level. The original account of the hearing was published by Bucks County Government's official site.
The officers' testimonies detailed how Wahlers allegedly fled from the police prior to the tragic incident. The exact charges Wahlers is facing have not been publicly detailed, but the decision to hold a trial indicates a serious level of culpability in the accident that led to Kay's death.
