
Earlier today, a Philadelphia medic was violently attacked while responding to an emergency call. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. near 22nd and Diamond Street in North Philadelphia, where the medic was stabbed in the chest during the transport of a patient to the hospital. 6ABC reports that subsequently, the medic was taken in critical condition with injuries to the chest and hand.
The situation escalated when, according to the FOX 29, a patient became irate and assaulted the medic, then attempted to escape the scene by jumping out of the ambulance. The medic’s quick transport to Temple Hospital for urgent care was thanks in part to police, who, responded to the location immediately after the attack.
Police swiftly responded after the assault with the authorities apprehending the suspect a short distance away, at 23rd and Norris streets. Describing the suspect's arrest, CBS News Philadelphia mentioned that the alleged attacker still had the knife used in the stabbing when taken into custody. This piece of evidence could be critical as the investigation unfolds.
While details about why the patient initially required medical assistance remain unclear, the identity of the patient-turned-suspect has not been disclosed pending further investigation. The Philadelphia Fire Department is expected to provide additional updates.
