Authorities are on the lookout for suspects involved in the burglary of the S.S. United States, as new details emerged regarding the incident that took place earlier this month. The Philadelphia Police Department reported that the suspects illegally entered the historic vessel moored on Pier #82 at approximately 1:40 AM on October 2, 2024.
Surveillance footage captured the suspects at 2205 S. Christopher Columbus Boulevard, where they gained unauthorized access to the ship. The individuals were then observed leaving the S.S. United States around three hours later with several items, their actions unfolding without consent, or regard for the historical significance that hovers, unseen but ever-present, around the weathered decks of this once-proud ocean liner.
The police are urging anyone who recognizes these individuals to avoid direct contact and call 911 without delay. Information can also be relayed to the South Detective Division at 215-686-3013/3014, referencing DC 24-03-046953. Tips can be submitted over the phone by dialing 215.686.TIPS (8477) or by texting the same number. Alternatively, individuals can provide information anonymously using an electronic form provided by the authorities.
