After a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision on the night of July 25 near 34th Avenue and Camelback Road in Phoenix, a suspect has now been taken into custody. FOX 10 Phoenix reports that the victim, 51-year-old Pedro Cobas, was found with serious injuries at the scene and later succumbed to them in the hospital.

19-year-old Jacob Wren has been arrested and is facing charges for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Having parked the car around 39th Avenue and Elm Street, and abandoning the scene on foot, police arrested Wren this past Monday, as per KTLA. Furthermore, Cobas was at the time crossing the street upon the fatal incident.

According to the statement obtained by KOLD, Wren fled the Phoenix area after the collision and spent over a month hiding out in Tucson. He returned to Phoenix last month, where he was subsequently arrested on Sept. 30. Court documents claim the driver removed his vehicle’s license plate before fleeing the scene.

Wren allegedly admitted to investigators that he did not realize he had hit and killed someone until he saw the internet coverage of the crash, as detailed by KOLD. Since the crash, investigators managed to identify Wren as the suspect with the help of a witness video, despite the car's license plate being removed.
