Phoenix is about to celebrate one of its own, as Mayor Kate Gallego is set to honor Denise Resnik, a dedicated autism advocate and influential business leader, with the Global Citizen Award. According to the City of Phoenix official news release, this recognition comes as part of The Mayor's International event, which is scheduled for October 19 at Chateau Luxe. Resnik's contributions aren't just local; she's made waves on an international scale through her dual roles as founder and president/CEO of First Place AZ and co-founder of the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC).
Resnik, has been a powerhouse in combining her business savvy with her passion for autism advocacy, resulting in Phoenix being named “the most autism-friendly city in the world" by PBS NewsHour in a 2016 broadcast series. Mayor Gallego praised Resnik in a statement obtained by the City of Phoenix, saying, “Denise is improving the quality of life for countless numbers of people on the autism spectrum here in Phoenix and worldwide." Resnik's First Place AZ has not only provided housing solutions for adults with autism but has also been instrumental in ensuring these individuals have access to jobs, education, and a supportive community.
It's not just about creating a place to live, but fostering an environment where people with autism can thrive and lead fulfilling lives. Denise Resnik understood this when she laid the foundation for First Place AZ and SARRC. Her work with these organizations has led to collaborations with diverse stakeholders, including government, private, and non-profit partners. Moreover, First Place AZ has spearheaded 12 Global Leadership Institute Symposiums, extending its reach to international advocates and experts, as reported by the City of Phoenix.
At the upcoming Mayor's International event, guests can expect more than just an award ceremony. An exclusive dinner menu inspired by Phoenix, Prague, and Suwon's cuisine will be on display, coupled with entertainment provided by the Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre. For those looking to attend, tickets remain available online, illustrating Phoenix's ongoing commitment to fostering global relationships through its Sister Cities program, spanning over 50 years of diplomacy and exchange.
