The Mid-County Mini-Transfer & Recycling Facility in Port Charlotte is now open 24/7. This announcement from the Charlotte County website aims to help residents manage storm-related debris following severe weather.
The facility, located at 19765 Kenilworth Blvd., will remain open 24/7 until further information is provided. However, there are specific conditions that residents must adhere to when utilizing the station's services. Identification proving county residency is a must-have, and it should include a name, photo, and local address. In a scenario where one's photo identification hails from another locale, it must be accompanied by a utility bill or document verifying residency in a Charlotte County residential address—P.O. Box addresses are not to be accepted.
Moreover, there are size restrictions on trailers, which cannot exceed 12 feet in length. Charlotte County's official site further notes that limitations on visits and amounts typically enforced have been temporarily waived, making it easier for residents to make multiple dump-offs of storm debris. However, residents should be aware that only storm debris will be accepted; items such as perishable household waste or yard trimmings in bags are prohibited.
Residents should note that the facility is for residential use only; commercial use is not allowed. According to the Charlotte County emergency notice, household hazardous waste will still only be accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more recovery information, residents can contact the Charlotte County Emergency Operations Center at 941-833-4000 during business hours or visit their website for additional storm recovery resources.
