Portland residents can expect to gradually see the sun break through the overcast skies today as patchy fog clears up, per the latest forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS). The city, currently experiencing a cool 46°F with a dewpoint of 43°F, will bask in a mild high of approximately 57 degrees. "Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 57," notes the NWS forecast. A light and variable wind is also on the cards for the region today.
As nightfall approaches, the NWS predicts the return of patchy fog after 5 a.m. An increase in cloud cover will quickly follow, with temperatures dipping to a low around 41 degrees. The calm is due to persist through Thursday, which should be mostly cloudy before clearing up to deliver a high of about 57. A calm wind will slowly become north at 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
Friday looks promising with mostly sunny conditions and a high near 62, according to the NWS forecast. However, come Friday night, the weather is expected to take a turn, with a 70% chance of rain rolling in after 11 pm. The incoming showers will bring an overnight low around 49.
The weekend outlook points to a wetter scenario, with rain assured on Saturday and a high close to 60. "Rain. High near 60. Chance of precipitation is 100%," the NWS update reads. This pattern is to persistently continue into Sunday and Monday, offering little reprieve from the downpour. Residents should brace for a series of cloudy and rainy days ahead, with the NWS forecasting consecutive days of rain and cloud cover. The regular rhythm of rain and clouds may give way, perhaps, come Tuesday, which offers a mere chance of rain amidst an otherwise predominantly cloudy sky.
