Earlier today, a potentially tragic scenario unfolded on Interstate 69E near East 24th Street in Brownsville, Texas, when Border Patrol agents, working together with the Brownsville Police Department, resolved a dangerous situation involving a young woman in distress. Noticing something unusual, agents from the Fort Brown Station intervened to assist, focusing on the safety of both the individual and passing motorists.
According to a report by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as the Border Patrol agents approached the young lady, who was precariously balanced on a concrete pillar of the overpass, their quick action became crucial. She had jumped onto the pillar, putting herself in immediate danger of falling. Without hesitation, agents intervened and safely brought her back, literally pulling her from the edge.
The young lady received an evaluation from emergency medical services soon after the rescue and was then handed over to local police. "This was a dangerous situation, not only for the individual but for everyone on the highway," remarked Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. "I’m incredibly proud of the way our Fort Brown Station Border Patrol agents and Brownsville Police Officers handled this rescue. Their training and quick thinking likely saved a life today," she added, confirming the commendable response of the agents involved, as per CBP.
