Raleigh's Crabtree Valley Mall had an incident yesterday afternoon when gunfire occurred in a parking deck and a suspect was involved in a hit-and-run, but no injuries were reported. The Raleigh Police Department responded around 1:35 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of gunfire near Creedmoor Road, according to WRAL News. One person has been taken into custody, but their involvement in the incident is still unclear.
Kenneth Tireman, an employee, said, "We heard gunfire first. Sounded like about six to seven shots out of an automatic. I told everybody to get away from the windows went out to the street, looked heard two more shots. We got down, went back inside. Then we heard more gunshots. No police sirens or nothing yet. So we grabbed our AR's and came out here and ready to go to go to war." The Raleigh Police Department advised the public to avoid the Creedmoor Road entrance while they investigate, although the mall remains open, as stated by ABC11.
No injuries were reported from the gunfire or the crash, but several vehicles were damaged. Police found "numerous shell casings" on the first floor of the parking garage behind Macy's, as mentioned by CBS17. Witnesses told officers that several people ran from the scene after the gunshots were heard, and Raleigh Police quickly located evidence of the shooting within the parking structure.
The Raleigh Police Department is still investigating and asks anyone with information to call 919-966-3335 or leave a tip on the Raleigh Crimestoppers website. Shopper Alayjah Ottley told WRAL News, "It seemed pretty normal. I'm not even sure if anyone knew about the police cars outside."
