As early voting is set to kick off on Monday in Bexar County, officials are noting a significant increase in voter registration numbers. According to FOX San Antonio, the county has seen a 9.7% jump in registrations compared to the last Presidential Election. Bexar County Elections Administrator Jacque Callanen said, "This is such a great opportunity for people to vote where they want when they want. It’s all about convenience."
The election body is urging voters to take advantage of the increased number of polling locations during this early voting period. In a move to potentially alleviate long waiting times at polls, the Elections Department will track and publish the busyness of each location, as mentioned in a statement obtained by KSAT. Voters have the option to vote early at any of the 51 sites or on Election Day, regardless of their home precinct.
Furthermore, Bexar County has registered more than 1.2 million voters for the 2024 Presidential Election, an uptick from the 1,188,930 registrations in the 2020 election cycle. "Voter registration has increased (so far) by 104,574voters since 2020; and we are still processing the thousands of extra registrations that came in this election cycle, so that number will increase," Callanen told FOX San Antonio.
The deadline to submit an application for a mail ballot is also fast approaching, with a cut-off on Friday next week. Interested voters should contact the Bexar County Elections Department to request a ballot, as explained by KSAT. With more than 42,760 applications received for mail-in ballots and over 7,000 returned so far, the department is gearing up for a busy election season.
Additional voter resources are available, including information for deaf voters and those with limited-term driver’s licenses who may only cast their ballot at the main elections office. For details on early voting locations, sample ballots, and more, Bexar County voters can visit the KSAT website for comprehensive coverage.
