On a quiet afternoon in Woodcrest, a normally peaceful unincorporated area of Riverside, a home invasion robbery turned a resident's world upside down. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, on October 10, at precisely 2:50 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 15000 block of Washington Street following reports of a suspicious situation. The victim, who sustained minor injuries in the ordeal, told authorities that two intruders had forcefully entered his home, assaulted him, and restrained him before proceeding to ransack his abode.

From the investigation, deputies uncovered that the suspects made their escape with not only several handguns but also two vehicles belonging to the victim. The search for the assailants led to a high-speed chase when deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station chased down one of the stolen vehicles with the aid of the Riverside Sheriff Aviation Unit. After a pursuit, the vehicle crashed into a fence on Old Road, Perris, and was shortly engulfed in flames. Although the vehicle was consumed by fire, CAL-Fire personnel swiftly extinguished it. The suspect fled from the wreckage but didn't get far. With help from the Special Enforcement Bureau and K-9 Unit, deputies apprehended one of the culprits, later identified as Luis Huato Talavera, 31, from Perris, as reported by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.

Talavera faces serious charges including home invasion robbery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and elder abuse. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center, as per the Riverside County Sheriff's Office. But the second suspect's whereabouts remain unknown. The authorities are continuing their investigation and are hopeful to identify and apprehend the remaining suspect involved in the crime.
