The community of Rochester Hills is grappling with a shocking crime after two men impersonating DTE Energy workers were involved in the murder of a 72-year-old homeowner and the assault on his wife. According to The Detroit News, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard revealed that the suspects had attempted to enter the home on Thursday but were denied, they returned the following morning and were allowed inside, leading to fatal consequences.
The series of events, described by Sheriff Bouchard during a news conference, points to a premeditated attack where the suspects, after gaining entry under pretenses, went to the basement with the homeowner. The wife, later found restrained and freed herself to call for help, initially thought her husband had been kidnapped, however, the authorities found the man's body and the actual cause of death remains under investigation due to the extensive bleeding witnessed at the scene according to WWJ Newsradio.
While the sheriff's office has yet to disclose the victims' names pending notification of next of kin, they are urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the capture of the suspects; the office has circulated security footage stills while informing that a possible reward could be issued for information leading to an arrest—it is hoped that someone will recognize the individuals even with their faces partially concealed as per information from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
Here is a picture of one of our homicide suspects. Even though they are attempting to conceal their faces and identity, it’s likely if you know this person you will recognize even with the mask. A reward is possible. Either call our office or 1 800 speakup. pic.twitter.com/D7MmLS3zn5

Details from the security footage show one large man wearing a reflective vest and a medical face mask, and a second man, also wearing a reflective vest; they were seen driving a white pickup truck fitted with orange cones and possibly a DTE logo, with the sheriff's office announcing that the suspects include a heavy-set Hispanic man and a thin Black man ongoing investigations also suggest that the attack was targeted and related to the victim's line of work in a jewelry pawn shop as per details by The Detroit News.
DTE Energy has reacted to the incident by expressing deep condolences, highlighting their operational protocols to prevent such an impersonation, and urging customers to verify their identity before granting access to their homes. They emphasized that genuine DTE employees will carry photo identification, and customers are encouraged to verify any doubts directly with DTE customer service, as per WWJ Newsradioi.
