The streets of Round Rock are set for a revamp as the City Council greenlit a multi-million dollar maintenance contract, focusing on some of the city's main arteries. The agreement, endorsed at the Oct. 24 meeting, involves handing out over $3.5 million to Cutler Repaving, Inc. for extensive roadwork, targeting several critical thoroughfares.
Areas slated to see improvements include parts of Creek Bend Boulevard, Bass Pro Drive, Smyers Lane, Mays Street, Deep Wood Drive, Hidden Valley Drive, East Bowman Road/Tiger Trail, and Chandler Creek Boulevard. As reported by the City of Round Rock's official website, tasks encompass a full suite of maintenance activities from milling and asphalt overlay to pavement patching, along side replacement of problematic curb, sidewalk, and driveway approaches. These projects are cherry-picked based on the underlying structural condition of the roads.
Residents can expect the rumble of construction machinery come December, with the project likely wrapping up by spring 2025. This timetable aligns with the City’s proactive approach to keeping its streets in prime condition. The strategy is straightforward – monitor and mend to prevent the everyday wear and tear from turning into tomorrow's potholes and hazards.
Over the span of the last decade, Round Rock has funneled approximately $25 million into arterial street upkeep and an additional $35 million for neighborhood streets. Such investments underscore a commitment to infrastructure that caters to a city slicing through more than 1,150 lane miles within its purview.
