In a recent update from Sacramento, two residents, Dominic Davis, 38, and Sharitia Wright, 59, pleaded guilty to charges related to a tax fraud conspiracy. U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced that they admitted to conspiring to file false claims with the IRS, which has serious implications for both individuals.

According to the information provided by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Dominic Davis and Sharitia Wright orchestrated a scheme from March 2019 to April 2022, filing at least nine fraudulent income tax returns. These documents falsely claimed over $2 million in refunds from the IRS. The fraudulent activity included returns in their names and those of family members, featuring wages that were never earned and charitable contributions that were not made.

As asserted by court documents, many of these returns listed the taxpayer's employer as various LLCs created by Davis, Wright, and their family. Davis took on the role of preparing and filing these false tax returns, while Wright facilitated the scheme by providing him with necessary information and actively checking on the fraudulent refunds with the IRS.

Both Dominic Davis and Sharitia Wright have agreed to pay restitution for the false income tax refunds they received as part of their plea. The investigation was conducted by IRS Criminal Investigation, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas M. Fogg. They are scheduled for sentencing on February 3, 2025, by U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd and could face up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine each.
