The Great Northwest Branch Library, part of the San Antonio Public Library system, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a family-friendly event offering a range of activities. Tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the library, known for serving communities on San Antonio’s northwest side, will commemorate three decades since its doors opened on October 22, 1994.
According to a news release from the City of San Antonio, the celebration is fall-themed and will begin with a ceremony to mark the occasion. Attendees can enjoy life-size games like Connect-4 and Jenga, balloon art, and story time for families. There will also be a chance to make a commemorative button, spin a prize wheel, and meet the SAPL mascot, Smarty. Light refreshments will be served.
Since it opened, the Great Northwest Branch Library has been a key part of the local community. This award-winning facility, originally 12,500 square feet and designed by Lake/Flato, Inc., was expanded to 17,000 square feet in 2006. It has been featured in architectural and library journals and attracts over 100,000 visitors each year.
The library has a collection of over 80,000 items, including books and financial publications, lending out more than 25,000 items each month. It offers public computers with internet access and free Wi-Fi for personal devices. Weekly programs and events cater to various age groups, promoting education and community engagement.
