San Antonio has been deemed the safest among Texas' major cities. Despite prevalent reports of crime incidents, the city managed to rank No. 129 out of 182 in terms of overall safety in the United States, standing out in the Texas Triangle as comparatively secure against its large-city counterparts. Austin, Dallas, and Houston trailed behind, positioned lower in the safety rankings, according to a study recently released by the personal finance blog WalletHub and reported by San Antonio Current.
WalletHub's methodology incorporated to thoroughly compare 41 different safety indicators, including per capita rates of violent crimes such as assaults and murders, as well as factors relating to natural disasters and financial metrics like unemployment rates. Meanwhile, the border town of Laredo received acclaim as Texas' safest spot, boasting a compelling No. 21 spot nationally. The study's findings, as mentioned in a FOX San Antonio report, extends to San Antonio's high marks specifically in natural disaster risk, where it ranked No. 73.
When looking at safety more holistically for the United States, several other smaller Texas cities received high safety rankings – Brownsville, Amarillo, and Grand Prairie were all named among America's top 100 safest cities. Moreover, the San Antonio Current has highlighted that South Burlington, Vermont takes the top spot as the nation's safest city, while Memphis has been named the most dangerous.
